Thinking About DOOM

QuickImage Category Reviews

I saw DOOM yesterday. I've noticed that most of the critics reviewing the movie are ripping it apart, saying things like it lacks character depth, the plot is too simplistic, and the monsters are predictable. These are the same complaints these dolts had about Godzilla; and my answer to them is the same as it was then......Shut the hell up and let us enjoy the movie!.

I mean, come on, it's a movie based on a video game. It's not supposed to be Oscar material. The only requirements it needs to fill are:

  • Space marines....check.
  • Mars....check.
  • Gratuitous Violence....check.
  • Pinky....check (fun how they covered this one).
  • Chainsaw....PARTIAL check.

minor spoiler warning If you read on, there is a minor spoiler (nothing major, I'm just going to explain the Chainsaw point).

The Chainsaw isn't used. They use a Bone Saw instead. This was a little bit of a bummer, but still lots of fun.

My point here is, of the 5 required points to make this a decent DOOM movie, they hit 4 1/2 of them. AND they managed to throw in some fun plot twists, AND they managed to leave it "open" for a sequel. Granted, this is no Dukes of Hazzard; but it isn't supposed to be. It is a bloody, violent, pointless movie. Which is just perfect for me.
