I saw the teaser trailer for this over the weekend. Walt Disney studios is releasing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy next summer. I can't wait. I wonder if The Schwartz is aware of this extremely cool bit of news.

I did a bit of checking, and have discovered that Sam Rockwell is playing Zaphod Beeblebrox. I don't think they could have found a more perfect actor for the part.

Mos Def has been cast as Ford Prefect. While at first this seems a bit odd (I always pictured Michael Palin as the perfect Prefect) bit of casting; the more I think about it, the the more I wonder why I imagined an alien as a British white guy. Mos Def was very good in The Itailian Job, I don't see any reason why he won't do well in this role.

Who plays Arthur Dent you ask? Why none other than Martin Freeman II. If you've seen The Office (the real one, not the crappy American remake), or Shaun of the Dead (which, by the way, is one of the funniest films this year), then I think you'll agree that he should fill this role quite handily. Unless he just throws in the towel.

1 - Yes, I recently did become aware of it. Looking forward to it very much. Also definitely looking forward to the regenerated Dr. Who, too. I actually think Michael Palin would have made a good Arthur Dent, rather than a Ford Prefect. I think of him in the old "argument" sketch as having just the right amount of resilience in the face of utter nonsense for the Arthur role. Jim Carrey would have been good choice for Ford Prefect, IMHO. And John Cleese would be perfect for Slartibartfast.
